What break do you call home now and why? Manhattan Beach Pier and Second Street Hermosa. Good People, Good Surf (sometimes), Good Times

Favorite type of wave? Overhead Barrels!

Favorite spot? Tough one. Wherever it is working and not crowded.

When confronted by a big, thick closeout barrel do you straighten out or pull in and enjoy the view? You have to Pull In! ….sometimes I go straight….

How often do you get in the water? As much as possible!

What qualifies you to judge the waves for the rest of us? I surf. I report on the spots I have surfed my entire life and I know enough to let you know when to stay in bed and when to get your butt to the beach.

What do you like about doing the report (aside from the obvious fame and fortune)?
Good reason to get to the beach and get up early…even when it sucks

What possesses you to get up at dawn every morning and do a surf report for free?
I wish I knew!

What makes your surf reports better than those of our competitors?
We don’t do the same report for 500 miles of coastline.

Do you ever wake up late and hungover and just make something up.
One time in 1996 but not since.

Any words of advice for someone who is just learning to surf?
Yes! Buy a board from me ?
